5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, Simple Monitor, January 16, 2013

Prolougue

About a year ago I bought a second hand computer from a friend to start using as my main computer. My laptop which I had used for 4 years in college was starting to show it's age. So when I got the desktop, there wasn't a monitor to go with it. I have been using second hand CRT monitors my university had retired. It was very difficult to use two of these monitors. They are very heavy, they have a thick border between them which made it difficult to use them as extended displays. One started ringing continuously during use so it was time for a new monitor. I went to Newegg and looked for my ideal monitor using their filter search. It is much easier and more trusted than Amazon's (Sorry Amazon). I was initially looking for a 24" as I have used my friends computer equipped with one and it seemed like an ideal size. The space which used to hold the dual CRT monitor setup could accommodate a monitor as large as 32". With this in the back of my mind I saw a few monitors... Read more

The screen quality is good, has great representation of colours and the image is easily adjustable.

The speakers are not good, but that is pretty much an industry standard. Most screens or TVs with built in speakers, usually have weak speakers. So I'm not making a big deal about it as that was expected.

The bezel is a little big, but at the time of design/manufacture it was pretty good for the what was the industry standard at the time.

It is a little wobbly on the stand, which is why I knocked off one star. It feels a little loose. Not too bad, but bad enough to be annoying everytime the desk gets bumped.

Other than that.. it was a great purchase and I'm thinking of getting a second one to run alongside the first one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compared to the equivelant ASUS, close call.., September 13, 2012
This review is from: AOC E2752VH 27-Inch Widescreen LED Monitor - Black (Personal Computers)
I compared this in store to the equivalent ASUS 27" VE278Q in store in frys. Feature by feature they're about the same except this one has a 20M:1 contrast ratio vs. the Asus has a 10M:1 contrast ratio. These ratios are not absolute and can be tweaked like statistics by manufacturer, but in opening Media Center and comparing the blue gradient the AOC pulls ahead slightly in it's smooth transition in hues. I recommend this monitor. The ASUS has a little easier to use menus, and an image filter button (switches between different view modes) but with this one it looks so good there's no need to change it for different contexts. I ended up going with the ASUS just because I wasn't familiar with AOC's reliability, but for $30 less I wish I had gone with this. I give the ASUS 4 stars.
