Let me start by saying this is another quality product from D-Link. I mounted it to the wall behind my wife's desk so her laptop and network printer can both share the network instead of the laptop having to go over wireless when it's docked.
The main things I like about this switch are:
1) It's a switch - not a hub. That means it will run in full duplex mode and each connected device doesn't have to deal with as much network overhead. A switch will typically give more than double the performance than a hub in the same situation.
2) I ran some performance tests through this switch and verified that it really is capable of sustaining 100Mb/s in each direction.
3) This switch looks great - it has a clean design with the lights in front and the ports/power plug in the back.
4) It comes with a couple of screws and wall anchors to mount it to the wall (which I did).

I'll start by saying that I got this with a very simple thing in mind: sharing peripherals without a security risk. We already have many of the computers and peripherals in our house set up on a wireless network via a modem and hub. I often need to print documents securely (e.g. patient records) and do not want any risk attendant with sending confidential information over a wireless network. granted it is a small risk, but a risk nonetheless, and one I would rather not take. That said, neither my computer nor other peripherals are wired into the household network (wired actually being used awkwardly, inaccurately here as our network is wireless). The D-link switch offers the option of going wired or wireless. Being 8 port, I could likely put all of us & our equipment on if I chose to, but the entire point of this for me is that I do not want to.
Really, my primary use is to share my childrens' printer, which is better than the one attached to my computer. I have not yet... Read more

So, why does anyone need more than 100Mb on their switch (forget other's comments about hubs - they don't really exist). You only need 3-4Mb for video (1.5Mb with Silverlight). Well built, fair support, and this switch is half the cost of a 1Gb switch (and not the same at others suggest, see below), this is a best buy. I have a network of PCs in my home office as well as a collection of stuff both in the bedroom and living room (blu-ray, xbox, receiver, etc) so I needed three (three of these is $45 less than Gb boxes). Highly recommended.
