Very nice, extremely quiet, but...., December 15, 2010 By This review is from: Noctua 140mm SSO CPU Cooler, for Intel Socket LGA1366, LGA1156, LGA775 and AMD Socket AM2, AM2+, AM3 Processors, Model: NH-C12P-SE14 (Accessory) System specs: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 with an Intel i7-930 CPU, 6gig of Corsair's Dominator RAM, an ATI 4890 video card, 3 hard drives, an optical drive and an Antec Signature 850 watt power supply - all housed in a Coolermaster HAF X case.
Since this was a new build I wanted to upgrade my ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT CPU cooler, and based on reviews, decided Noctua's NH-C12P SE14 would be that replacement.
With my ambient room temps averaging 77F (25c) and my CPU overclocked from 2.80 to 3.52 gigs I was getting 76c prime95 load, 45 idle with the Zalman. With the Noctua SE14 I'm averaging 71c load, 41c idle. As you can see, I dropped 5 degrees with the SE14. However moving towards a 3.7 gig overclock with the SE14 my temps shot to 77c prime 95 load! Once I moved back down to 3.5 temps stabilized to round 71ish load. Anyway I'm fine with 3.5gigs as I really don't need to go any higher than that. I was just curious to see what the CPU and cooler could do... and well I saw those... Read more

Cools just as effectively as any of the full size tower models from Noctua except the NH-D14. I get the same temps using this one as the NH-U12P so I'd rather go with this model which has greater compatibility with various PC cases and it also can accommodate RAM sticks with heatspreaders such as the Corsair Dominators (filled up all 6 memory banks and was able to fit the fan cooler that came with the matched Dominator set). I generally get around 32-35c on a stock Core i7 950 using the included thermal paste. Using Indigo Xtreme I've gotten as low as 26c with the NH-C12P.

This device is extremely well-made, performs very efficiently, and is extremely quiet. I'm not overclocking my CPU (i7 950) so it's not surprising to me that I have had no problems with heat.
The installation of the device is fairly straightforward. Attachment to the motherboard with the supplied Intel kit was very easy as was mounting the extremely quiet fan.
For me, aesthetics are part of the product's allure. At this level, the product is extremely attractive.
