Beware Not factory sealed, USED drives, August 14, 2012 By Michael Drurey (CHARLESTOWN, RI, US) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: SEAGATE ST3000DM001 Barracuda 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5 internal hard drive (Bare Drive) (Personal Computers) Nowhere in this listing does it say anything about these drives NOT being new. I was shocked to get the package only to find that the were wrapped in a platic bag instead of a sealed static free bag (like all other new hard drives). After writing to the company I got an automated eamil that states this:
Please red the following which is the Listing on AMAZON that you ordered from:. (yea right)
Condition:READ THIS CAREFULLY!:.....We are a Technology Consulting Firm, and have just finished a big end-of-year New Technology integration for one of our big clients and have some surplus materials on hand and are posting them here on AMAZON for quick sale. This listing is for a NEW SEAGATE "BARRACUDA XT" 3.0 TeraByte (3,000GB) hard drive. Seagate Number ST3000DM001....High 7,200rpm Spindle Speed, biggest 64 Cache on the Hard Drive Market. Perfect drives for RAID setups or NAS systems..... I am cleaning out my office of all surplus Materials including Hard Drives,... Read more

So far, so good, December 22, 2012 By This review is from: SEAGATE ST3000DM001 Barracuda 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5 internal hard drive (Bare Drive) (Personal Computers) I just installed four of these ST3000DM001 hard drives in my server,w here they will be subject to 24/7, though I they will be powered down when not used for extensive periods - which, in my case, is most of the time.
So far, they are running without a hiccup, maintaining appropriate temperatures, spinning up rapidly when needed and capable of more than adequate throughput for non-graphics applications.
Unlike far too many Seagate drives in recent years, there are no firmware upgrade patches to cover initial design errors.
These drives are a part of Seagate's "commodity" line, so you will often find them on-sale at very attractive prices. They are also used in Seagate's external drive housings which are often available for very ow prices, but a word of warning: Seagate keeps track of the serial numbers of the internal units and will not provide warranty service to units removed from the external housings.
Overall - and so far - a... Read more
Great value., February 18, 2013 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: SEAGATE ST3000DM001 Barracuda 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5 internal hard drive (Bare Drive) (Personal Computers) I know some people have had DOAs or reliability problems with this drive, but I have not. I now have 12 of these in 24/7 operation (I am a movie pack rat). They run cool and quiet and are really fast. I commonly get 80-90 mbs on large file transfers. At this point you cannot beat the price per gigabyte on these drives.
